Conventional braces, Invisalign, Sure Smile and removable techniques are prescribed for various cases.
Dr. Bovino is also trained in the treatment of skeletal – surgical ortho-gnathic cases. Dr. Bovino supervises ortho-gnathic cases with a maxillo-facial oral surgeon and, as a team, they diagnose, treatment plan and treat patients with jaw-facial disharmonies with the utmost care.

Dr. Bovino is a Certified Invisalign Provider.
Consider Invisalign to straighten your teeth and have a beautifully aligned smile- without braces. A series of computer generated clear invisible trays will gradually and comfortably move and align your teeth. There is no pain or discomfort, no soft tissue irritation and freedom to eat anything while having treatment. Brushing flossing and normal oral hygiene is done as usual. Invisalign is a wonderful alternative to traditional braces for adolescent and adult patients.

Benefits of Invisalign Treatment:

  • Invisible
  • Comfortable
  • Normal flossing and brushing
  • No soft tissue irritation
  • Minimal to no tooth discomfort
  • Enjoy any meal.
  • For adolescent, adults and senior patients. Dr. Bovino has patients in their late 70s with Invisalign treatment.

How Invisalign works.
Impressions of the teeth are made and sent to Invisalign for 3-D scanning. Dr. Bovino establishes a diagnoses,  treatment plan and designs the desired alignment of the teeth. Invisalign then produces a complete set of computer generated invisible trays and sends them to Dr. Bovino for the patient.
Treatment time can be as few as six months or up to 2 years.

Benefits of Orthodontic care in adults:

  • Improved smile
  • Improved plaque control
  • Decreased risk of tooth decay
  • Healthy periodontium (gums and bone)
  • Improves Temporo-Mandidular Joint health (T.M.J)

Traditional Braces

Dr. Bovino prescribes the use of tooth colored ceramic braces and thin wires when treating patients with conventional braces. This allows for more aesthetic and less noticeable braces.Braces
Children: The American Association of Orthodontist recommends children  visit the Orthodontist by the age of 7. Early diagnosis and treatment will reduce treatment time and help guide the growth and development of the jaws and teeth. This will result in healthy T.M.Js and occlusions (bite). Many children are treated with removable appliances to guide the growth and development of the teeth and jaws. This will stage the dentition for the second phase of treatment with conventional braces.

Why Braces?
Your dentist may have discussed with you the benefits of having healthy teeth and proper jaw alignment. Crooked and crowded teeth are hard to clean and maintain. This can result in tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss. Malocclusions can contribute to poorly aligned TMJs, abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, inefficient chewing function, excessive stress on gum tissue and the bone which supports the teeth. This can lead to chronic headaches and face or neck pain. Treatment by an orthodontist can be less costly than the additional care required to treat dental problems arising as a result of orthodontic problems.

For most people, a beautiful smile and the self-confidence that comes with it is the most obvious benefit of orthodontics.

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults can appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21.

It's best for the orthodontist to see children by the age of 7 or 8 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required. Orthodontic treatment can also improve the overall periodontal health of your dentition. Evaluating growth patterns, tooth eruptions and jaw alignments is best done at a younger age. This simplifies and reduces treatment time as well.

How Orthodontic Treatment Works
Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic, acrylic composites, or a combination of metal and composite. They may be removable or may have brackets bonded to the teeth. Dr Bovino will advise which is better for you.  By placing light force in a carefully controlled direction, modern braces gently move teeth to a corrected position. This is a great time to wear braces! Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth.

Duration of Treatment
Treatment time usually ranges from one to three years for full braces, depending on growth patterns of the patient and the severity of the problem.  Patients grow at different rates and will respond differently to orthodontic treatment.
